I initially wanted to give Bella a more severe penalty for turning Jasper and Peter into normal vampires, seeing as she used some pretty dark magic and whatnot. But it didn’t work.

“No, I know you don’t like me. As you may recall, I don’t really like you either,” Bella could hear Kol’s agitated voice as he was on the phone with someone. “But I need a second second opinion.”

Bella blinked as she decided not to move. She felt a little guilty for listening in on Kol’s phone conversation but it was about her, wasn’t it?

“No… well yes, the spell was dark magic but it was done with care and not rude. With the utmost respect towards the three other vampires… yes. If you say it like that, she killed them. I know that, Bonnie!” Bella could hear how he kept pacing across the room. Something was wrong. “No, she didn’t get their permission either but like I said, she treated them with the utmost respect and she even told us to change the spell so it wouldn’t be so rude.”

“I know. I knew that before I had her do the spell, but you know Klaus, he— Yeah, Davina said she told her that it comes with a price but Bonnie, not like this, this is just…” Kol sighed. Bella felt how he sat down on the bed and started to caress her hair.

“I think the effects are only temporary until she’s learned her lesson. If she’s not meant to learn something, maybe it’s her body’s way of saying ‘enough’ and she needs her rest. From what I hear is that your brother has been working her hard to learn a lot of stuff in a very short time.”

“Yeah.”

“Was that it? Because I’m getting the idea that you’re hearing what you already know and I’m a little busy here.”

“Yeah thanks,” Kol grumbled and Bella could hear how he flung the phone across the room out of frustration.

“Hey, what’s going on?” She asked softly and sat up, glad that the headache hadn’t returned yet and that it was still dark. “Have you been up all night?”

“No, I’ve napped… did I wake you?”

“No,” she shook her head as she crawled into his lap. Even in the darkness she could find him just fine and that amused her. “But at least you could have turned on a light.”

Kol sighed as he ran a hand through his hair before putting his arms around her. “Yeah… thing is though… you were out for most of the night and day after you did the spell yesterday. It’s a little before dinner time.”

“Oh.” Bella thought for a moment about what was going on and sighed as she put her head against his shoulder. Not cool. She had noticed Kol had been freaking out about this and even though she wanted to freak out about it, she was going to save it until she was alone. Kol needed to calm down first. “Well, if it’s of any consolation, I’m not completely blind.”

“You’re okay with this?” he was surprised.

“No,” she chuckled as she shifted a little in his lap. Of course she wasn’t okay with this, but if this was her punishment for doing the spell and – yes – killing three supernatural beings, then she shouldn’t complain. “I’m just saying, it could have been worse. I can still see shapes and outlines. Almost as if I’m awake during night time. I sure hope it’s temporary though, I’d hate having to miss out on looking at your face for the rest of our time together.”

“I have a handsome face.”

“Yeah, you do.”

He snorted as he softly kissed her forehead. “It’s okay to freak out about this, you know.”

She shrugged. “There’s no use. It won’t bring back my sight and I’d probably hurt myself in the process.”

Kol laughed as he hugged her tighter. “And here I was freaking out about the fact that my girlfriend can’t see anymore.”

“I’m your girlfriend?” Bella blinked as she tried to look at him. This was the first time that either one of them had spoken the word in each other’s presence. Others had, but they hadn’t due to their plan not to put a label on whatever what was going on between them. Then again, that was weeks ago and a lot had changed.

“Yes, Cuddles. You are my girlfriend and I’m your boyfriend.”

“Good,” she said with a nod. “I like that.”

“Great. Now that’s settled… Shall we go and visit your mum for a couple of days? I mean, we could go to Forks and visit your dad but I’ve seen Forks and it’s not appealing.”

“But what about—”

Bella felt how Kol shrugged. “Davina’s here. There’s a whole lot of witches willing to help protect New Orleans from the oncoming storm. Niklaus, Elijah and Rebekah can hold down the fort too. Maybe, if we’re lucky, by the time we’re done the fight’s over and Nik will have saved Edward for you.”

“Why the sudden need to leave?” She smiled at him. “I mean, yes, I’d love to go and visit my mom but…”

“Because of many reasons. Such as I haven’t met her yet and now that I’m your boyfriend, I should meet her, don’t you think? Also, I think it’d do us both good if we’d be away from everyone else for a bit. Not having to think about anything but to have a good time. Dodge responsibility and all that.”

“Just like that?”

“Yes, just like that.”

“And how are we going to explain to her why I can’t see?”

“Uhm… chemical accident at work but you should be fine in a few weeks?”

“Any reason why we can’t stay in New Orleans and have her come here so we can show her around?”

Kol kept quiet for a long time before he spoke again. “I want us to leave New Orleans until you’re better because right now I want to round up some Ancestors and kill them again.”

“This isn’t on them, Kol,” she said as she shifted a little and put her arms around his neck. “This is nature kicking ass. You can’t kick it back.”

“Surely there must be a way around it…”

“You tell me, you’ve been around for longer than I have, doing this for longer than I have…”

He sighed.

“Alright,” she said as she played with his hair. “Let’s go visit my mom,” she got her phone out of her pocket and groaned as she tried to look what was on the screen. “Would you please find her in the contacts and have the phone start dialling?”

“Of course, Cuddles.”

“No, wait,” she said as she got off his lap and got off the bed. “I need to go to the toilet first.” She managed to find the bathroom just fine, she knew the room and had often gone out of bed at night to go to the toilet so it was easy. It was a little bit harder to find her way back to the bed though, because Kol, always the prankster, had shoved a dresser in her way and now she was afraid that there was stuff on the floor she could easily miss and fall over. “Yeah, that’s not funny.”

“Oh, it is,” Kol grinned as Bella climbed on the bed again. He still didn’t like it that she got punished for using Dark Magic but as she said, it could have been worse. He only hoped it would be temporary though, because he had plans for him and Bella once all of her troubles were out of the way and he wanted her to be able to see all those things. But in the mean time, this was going to be hell for little independent and stubborn Bella who was used to doing things on her own and Kol was going to use that to tease her mercilessly.
