It’s no secret that I’ve been struggling with writing the last few years. I was really prolific at some point (not all my stuff is on the website because I “grew out of it”) and then it collapsed and then I started writing again and collapsed again and the whole trip over again. It’s a vicious cycle.
Then I did Nanowrimo in 2013 and it broke me. I did it with a friend of mine and it broke her too, she hasn’t actually been able to look at her own work since then because she thought she had lost her mojo and what she had written was rubbish – which it totally wasn’t.
Then around this time last year, a good fandom friend died and I didn’t want to even write in the fandoms that she and I shared because I knew that she wouldn’t be reading them anymore. It took a long time to shift my fanfic writing and I even did some original work. I never stopped writing but it was always a struggle.
I am so glad that Meeko always manages to pull me out of the cycle. We shared that good fandom friend and Meeko made the shift quicker than I did, with writing in a particular fandom. We started writing together again and now…
Now I’m proud to announce that I’m working on my first solo work in a fandom in ages. Granted, prompted by Meeko who wanted a Bella/Kol fic, but I’m doing it. And I can’t believe that I’m doing it and how fast the words and ideas seem to come, especially in two fandoms that I don’t know very well!
Yes, Meeko and I are writing Twilight/Arrow crossovers together, but it’s mostly set in the Arrow universe with some cameos of the main Twilight characters that I know. But the Originals? I started watching it properly because I read that Daniel Sharman was going to be in it and I watch for the “plot”.
In the last few days I’ve been doing my research and dug things up that I thought were coincidence and with Meeko’s prompting, used it. And voila. A story is born.
I have to admit that I’m scared. Both Twilight and The Originals aren’t small fandoms. Eek! What am I doing, really? Yikes!
