Some thoughts about organisation and Gambling Hearts

I have a lot of writing ideas and I should write more of them them down, I mean, I’ve even created a “writing ideas” folder on my computer! They’re original stories, but since I’ve gotten back in the swing of things with writing fanfiction, I might be able to put a tv show or movie I’m comfortable with into my ideas… maybe. I hope. Or just write the original stuff…

What does it currently hold? Well… uhm… research for one (hopefully) urban fantasy story loosely based on a legend in my own country – I know some of the players but I really need to go into more detail about it. The other idea… only has three lines and they don’t make sense to me. Awesome. Score!

I also have a WIP folder (who doesn’t?) but they all don’t make sense so I’m thinking about chucking the whole thing. No wait, actually, one does make sense. Like… a lot. And… I’m sitting here thinking… what the f–? I named it “Buggy’s big bang” because Meeko was doing a big bang of 10k words and I thought I’d write a sympathy big bang, I mean… that’s what friends do, right? It’s a little under 8500 words (I was on a roll baby!) and it’s a sequel to a crack fic that Meeko and I wrote. Something to do with DNA/Genetics going haywire and… primal instincts…

– I checked. It’s not on our shared fanfiction.net account nor is it on Meeko’s website (or mine) so ha. If you don’t know where to look, you’ll never find that original story.

Actually, it’s not crackfic, the original story is scientifically sound. I swear. We wrote the original story for a kink big bang and WE WENT THERE.  But yeah, Buggy’s big bang is the sequel to that. I might finish that one day as it’s the one that’s completed the most and the others just aren’t that good.

Then there’s last year’s NANOWRIMO attempt. Don’t get me wrong, I’m PROUD of what I achieved in 30 days last year. Nano broke me though, I’m not made to write compulsively 1667 words a day to stay on target. Because like last year, and my other attempt many years ago, it ended up in getting obsessed about it and stressful.

For someone who’s prone to panic and stress attacks (Hi!!! *waves*), Nano is not good for one’s health. There were days where I didn’t sleep properly (I need at least 8 hours, but preferably 10) and didn’t eat simply because I didn’t get to my word target. So I won’t be doing Nano this year. No way.

But, the idea for my Nano story was a good one, just poorly executed and too many ideas thrown into one melting pot and it became messy. If I’d ever start to de-construct the story, it’d become two stories. I think that I’m more in love with the banner I made for the story than the story itself. Oops.

The point of writing down these thoughts is to get me more organized, eventually. I mean, the more I talk about having to organize my shit, the better I’ll get at it, right?

No?

As I write this, eleven chapters have been posted of Gambling Hearts, the Arrow/Twilight crossover that I’m writing with Meeko. ELEVEN CHAPTERS OUT OF SEVENTEEN. And we’re already working on a sequel that’s going to be bigger and badder than the first one. We just have to struggle through this chapter we’re currently working on and then… fluff, charity, other stuff, fluff, more build up and showdown.*

Now, I’m not going to spoil anything, but I am going to share something that’s being counted as bonus content, you know, like the deleted scenes on a DVD. Sometimes, Meeko and I start writing something and have so much fun (or, in some cases we’re in agony) and later realize that it simply doesn’t fit into the story. So… here are a couple of non-spoilery lines of our sequel to Gambling Hearts:

She [Bella] looked thoughtful as she eyed them. “So we’re going rock climbing? If this goes badly, will I get to shove one of you off the mountain?”

“Not really…” Oliver smirked. “We’ll start easy, I promise.” He pointed to the salmon ladder. “Use the —-”

“Yeah – no. You’re hot on that, not me.”

“Will you let me finish?” Oliver said with an amused smile on his face.

Until next time,

Buggy

* My words to Meeko in chat when we were talking about it. This could change 🙂

  1. Yeah yeah, we will 🙂 Chuckle attacks are getting less and less, you know. I’m paying attention 😛

  2. Hehehehe…. If we can only get over her issues and sexy times… and the chuckle attacks….
